LPN Labels: Why are they on my FBA inventory?
LPN or license plate numbers are commonly used by Amazon in their FBA DC’s for items that have been categorized as unfulfillable. The most common way in which an item is categorized as unfulfillable is if the item is returned by a shopper.
LPN labels are permanently placed upon the package and the label is not removable. It seems Amazon’s practice is to place the LPN directly over the existing FNSKU. When the LPN label is placed over the FNSKU it is no longer possible to read the FNSKU.
Typically LPN labels are used internally with warehouses for practical reasons to define a location to which merchandise is allocated. Amazon’s purpose is to ensure used unfulfillable products do not re-enter the pipeline and mistakenly mixed with new products. Because LPN products are not to be commingled with sellable products, they are moved to another location.
