The 2018 Q4 retail sales saw a slip from what Wall Street had hoped for leading to revisions of GDP numbers. That may have been the news headline recently but when we analyze the volume of returns pumping back into our facility, the signs of a slump are far from evident.
We saw a healthy increase in the volume of returned ecommerce product which leads us to conclude that the sales through the fourth quarter of 2019 was in fact robust. As a direct corollary to sales activity, we have a direct line of sight as to the real market, and we saw a strong retail market moving forward.
Amazon reported 4th quarter revenues of $72.4 Billion which beat expectations of $71.9 Billion.
The growth of international sellers moving to the Amazon marketplace also saw a significant rise as Amazon's global reach saw area sales and business development moving foreign suppliers onto the flagship Amazon.com platform, creating greater depth to the already massive product catalog.
If there is any takeaway from 2018, its look out, Amazon is not stopping its global dominance and this will certainly lead to greater opportunities for foreign-based sellers seeking riches on the tried and true sales platform.
